SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Arnold Miller of
4 Highland Park, on Monday, July 31, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He grew up in Albany Park; he was a cadet in the
6 Reserve Officers' Training Corp program at Von Steuben High
7 School; he attended the University of Illinois at
8 Urbana-Champaign, graduating with a degree in accounting; he
9 was united in marriage in 1975 to Dolores Epstein; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He joined his brothers at Quill Corp. in 1974; he
11 helped the company grow from approximately $3.5 million in
12 annual sales in 1973 to almost $650 million when it was sold to
13 Staples in 1998; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He had numerous interests throughout his life
15 including balsa-wood model airplanes and would eventually
16 learn to pilot real airplanes; he loved the West in general and
17 deserts in particular, leading groups of friends, including his
18 brothers on expeditions down the Colorado River in rafts and
19 across the Baja Peninsula in Mexico in four-wheel-drive trucks;
20 and
 
21     WHEREAS, His perseverance led him to study the Torah and
22 complete his bar mitzvah at the age of 79; and
 
23     WHEREAS, The passing of Arnold Miller has been deeply felt
24 by many, especially his wife, Dolores; his sons, Gregory,
25 Avrum, and Harlan; his daughters, Cindy Levy, Gail
26 Miller-Salkin, Susan Pack, and Lauren Jacobson; his brothers
27 Jack and Harvey Miller; and twelve grandchildren; therefore, be
28 it
 
29     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL

1 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2 Arnold Miller, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
3 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4 further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
7 sympathy.
