SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Helen Sauper of Naperville
4 on Saturday, July 29, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born on November 6, 1920, in Sioux City,
6 Iowa; she graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in
7 1940; after graduation, she moved to Chicago and worked for
8 Employers' Mutual Insurance Company, Burroughs Adding Machine
9 Company, and the Meinhardt Diamond Tool Company; she met and
10 married her late husband, Ralph, in Chicago in 1942; and
 
11     WHEREAS, She lived in various places in the country, while
12 her husband was serving in the Signal Corps; when he returned
13 from Korea, they moved back to Sioux City; they moved to
14 Chicago in 1947, and in 1948, they moved to Naperville; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Mrs. Sauper was an employee of the Naperville
16 National Bank from 1954 to 1967, where she was the head of the
17 bookkeeping and proof departments and later became the director
18 of advertising and public relations; she was a graduate of the
19 Financial Public Relations School of Chicago; and
 
20     WHEREAS, In 1967, she obtained her real estate broker's
21 license and joined the real estate firm of Rich Port, Realtor
22 until 1982, when she joined Re/Max, retiring in 1989; over the
23 years of selling real estate, Mrs. Sauper received many high
24 honors for sales and listings; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Mrs. Sauper was the first woman to serve as the
26 president of the Naperville Chamber of Commerce; she served on
27 many boards including Little Friends Inc., Wayside Cross Rescue
28 Mission, Lifesprings Ministries, Naperville Chamber of
29 Commerce, the YMCA, Grace United Methodist Church
30 Administrative Board, and the Naperville Cemetery Association

1 Board; she was a member of the North Central College Executive
2 Committee for fund raising and was on the City of Naperville
3 Historic Sites Committee; she volunteered at Edward Hospital
4 and was a member of the Naperville Woman's Club; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She helped organize and was president of the
6 Naperville Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's
7 Association and was named Woman of the Year in 1970 by that
8 chapter; she assisted in organizing the Naperville Diamond
9 Chapter of the ABWA and was named Woman of the Year of the Year
10 in 1984 by that chapter; the Diamond Chapter merged with Aurora
11 members to form a new chapter, the Diamond City of Lights
12 Chapter, where she served as historian; she received the
13 Naperville Jaycees Distinguished Service Award in 1984 for the
14 business category; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Mrs. Sauper was a member of Wesley United
16 Methodist Church, where she served on a number of committees
17 and also taught kindergarten classes for 13 years; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The passing of Helen Sauper has been deeply felt
19 by many, especially her son, John "Jack" (Adell) Sauper; her
20 daughter, Rosemary (Charles) Kuder; her five grandchildren;
21 and her two great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death by
22 her parents, Sparhawk and Henrietta (nee Goodwin) Hutchins; her
23 husband, Ralph; her brothers, Herbert, Robert, and George; and
24 her sister, Margaret Gillen; therefore, be it
 
25     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
26 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
27 Helen Sauper, and we extend our sincere condolences to her
28 family, her friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
29 further
 
30     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
31 presented to her family as an expression of our deepest
