SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of John Robert Hunter of Alton on Saturday, June 24, 2006; and

WHEREAS, He was born in Mount Vernon on November 25, 1921; he graduated from Centralia High School and then attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hunter valiantly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army for five years in the 33rd Infantry Division, Goldcross; he was awarded two bronze stars for the New Guinea and Luzon campaigns; and

WHEREAS, After returning from the service, he attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, where he met his future bride; he later graduated from University of Illinois in Urbana; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hunter and his wife moved to Quincy, where he was an Allstate insurance agent, then in 1956, he moved his family to Alton, where he worked at Carter Brothers Lincoln Mercury and also as a Farmers Mutual Insurance agent; Farmers Mutual changed their name to American Family Insurance and he continued working there with his daughter until his death; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hunter loved people from all walks of life; he loved all animals and was known to rescue strays; he touched the life of every living thing that encountered him, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him; and

WHEREAS, The passing of John Robert Hunter has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife of 58 years, Norma; his sons, John Hall Hunter and Jeffery Mark Hunter and his wife, Althea; his daughter, Jean Marie Hunter-Kinsella and her husband, Thomas Kinsella; and his grandson, Cris Bennett Hunter and fiancee, Cherise; he was preceded in death by his parents, James Hall and Juanita Jean Hunter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John Robert Hunter, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
