SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Alexis Giannoulias on Sunday, June 25, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Alexis Giannoulias was born in Kalavryta, Greece; he moved to Chicago in the early 1960s and worked as a food salesman; and

WHEREAS, He founded Broadway Bank in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood in 1978; the financial institution now has four branches and about $800 million in assets; all three of his sons are part of the business, which specializes in small-business and commercial real estate lending; for the last four years, Broadway Bank has been ranked number one in the Chicago area by Crain's Chicago Business based on return on assets; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Alexis Giannoulias has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife of 38 years, Anna; and his sons, Demetris, George, and Alexi; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Alexis Giannoulias, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
