SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Dr. James E. Jones of Chicago on Wednesday, May 24, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Jones was raised by an uncle, who was a Chicago physician, following the passing of his mother and infant sister during childbirth; and

WHEREAS, He received an undergraduate degree in 1949 from the University of Wisconsin and attended the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Medicine, graduating with his medical degree on June 19, 1953; that night he traveled to Philadelphia to marry his fiancee, Jetta Norris; and

WHEREAS, He served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Bentwaters Royal Air Force Base in England, with the rank of captain; and

WHEREAS, He did his residency at Cook County Hospital and in the late 1960s, he joined the University of Chicago Hospital as a clinical associate, where he was a mentor to many and continued to have ties until his retirement in 2000; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Jones was known for his expertise and willingness to help and teach; he had an ability to see the positive side of things and is remembered by friends for his charming and affable nature; and

WHEREAS, He and his wife were art collectors and active with Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. James E. Jones has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Jetta Norris Jones; and his children, Julie Min Simms, Josh Christian Jones, and Courtney Aurora Jones; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dr. James E. Jones, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
