SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Dr. James E. Jones of
4 Chicago on Wednesday, May 24, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dr. Jones was raised by an uncle, who was a
6 Chicago physician, following the passing of his mother and
7 infant sister during childbirth; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He received an undergraduate degree in 1949 from
9 the University of Wisconsin and attended the University of
10 Illinois at Chicago School of Medicine, graduating with his
11 medical degree on June 19, 1953; that night he traveled to
12 Philadelphia to marry his fiancee, Jetta Norris; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He served his country as a member of the U.S. Air
14 Force, stationed at Bentwaters Royal Air Force Base in England,
15 with the rank of captain; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He did his residency at Cook County Hospital and
17 in the late 1960s, he joined the University of Chicago Hospital
18 as a clinical associate, where he was a mentor to many and
19 continued to have ties until his retirement in 2000; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Dr. Jones was known for his expertise and
21 willingness to help and teach; he had an ability to see the
22 positive side of things and is remembered by friends for his
23 charming and affable nature; and
 
24     WHEREAS, He and his wife were art collectors and active
25 with Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art; and
 
26     WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. James E. Jones has been deeply
27 felt by many, especially his wife, Jetta Norris Jones; and his
28 children, Julie Min Simms, Josh Christian Jones, and Courtney

1 Aurora Jones; therefore, be it
 
2     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4 Dr. James E. Jones, and we extend our sincere condolences to
5 his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
6 further
 
7     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
9 sympathy.
