SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Michael G. Pohlman of Glen Carbon on Sunday, May 7, 2006; and

WHEREAS, He was born on January 2, 1958, in Alton to George A. and Mary E. (Hawkins) Pohlman; he and the former Beverly J. Newcom were married on August 23, 1980, in Rosewood Heights; and

WHEREAS, He was a 1976 graduate of Roxana High School, where he played football, baseball, and basketball; he attended St. Louis University on a baseball scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy in 1980; he then attended the Medical College of Virginia and received a master's degree in 1988; he obtained his doctorate degree in physical therapy in November of 2005; and

WHEREAS, He had owned and operated Fitness Design in Glen Carbon with his partner since 1992; he was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Glen Carbon and the Edwardsville Knights of Columbus Council; and

WHEREAS, An avid bicyclist, he was a member of the St. Louis Cycling Club and played competitive racquetball in the St. Louis area for many years; and

WHEREAS, He was a loving husband and father, a caring and competent physical therapist, and a true and loyal friend to many, and he touched many lives; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Michael G. Pohlman has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Beverly; his parents, George and Mary Pohlman; his sons, Matthew and Andrew Pohlman; his daughters, Amy and Molly Pohlman; his brothers, Daniel Pohlman and wife, Debbie, Douglas Pohlman, and Christopher Pohlman and wife, Kelly; and his sister, Jackie McManus; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael G. Pohlman, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved his; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
