SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Merl Lee Butler on Saturday, April 1, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Merl Lee Snow was born on November 24, 1926, in Chicago to George and Mattie May Snow; she met and married James Butler on March 24, 1951; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Butler was an active member of the Churches of God and Christ and had attended Faith Temple (C.O.G.I.C.) for the past 20 years; she faithfully served on the Mothers Board and expressed her appreciation and gratitude for God's blessings, her life, and the fellowship and warmth she received from both friends and strangers throughout her lifetime; and

WHEREAS, She will be remembered for her love for her family and friends, her great sense of humor, her many candid remarks, and the warmth generated by her to her fellow man; she was the kind of woman who enjoyed life to the fullest, which meant she lived it serving her God; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Merl Lee Butler has been deeply felt by many, especially her children, Howard Snow, Minister Gwennetta Smiley, Dr. Felicia Y. Blasingame (Zachary), and Rose Butler; her grandchildren, Toni, Ronald, Nena, Hassan, Chloe', and Devin; her great-grandchildren, Nina, Kayla, Imani, and Ronald III; her brother, Ernest Snow; and her many cousins and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Merl Lee Butler, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
