SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express
3 their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Adolph
4 Paytes of Chicago, who passed away on March 26, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Adolph Paytes was born on April 3, 1936 to Alonzo
6 Lawson Paytes, Sr. and Irma Atkins Paytes; he was joined in
7 marriage on July 17, 1960, to his wife of forty-six years,
8 Leona Simmons; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Paytes was educated in Chicago public schools,
10 where he excelled as an honor student; he graduated from both
11 Shoop Elementary School and Morgan Park High School; during his
12 high school career, he was a star football player who was
13 lovingly known as "The Great T99"; and he graduated from
14 Roosevelt University with degrees in business administration
15 and accounting; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was employed by the Chicago Transit Authority;
17 and
 
18     WHEREAS, Mr. Paytes was baptized as a child at Arnett
19 African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he participated in
20 many of the church's activities; later, he became active at
21 Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church and, until his death,
22 he was a dedicated member of Christ Universal Temple; he was a
23 proud life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity in the Theta Mu
24 Lambda Chapter; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Aldoph Paytes and his wife, Leona, traveled
26 extensively; they enjoyed an annual trip to Cancun Mexico
27 together and made many trips to their vacation home in Union
28 Pier, Michigan; and
 
29     WHEREAS, Mr. Paytes was preceded in death by his parents,

1 his brothers, Alonzo Lawson, Jr. and James Thadeus, and his
2 sister, Joan McDuffie; and
 
3     WHEREAS, The passing of Adolph Paytes will be felt by all
4 who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Leona Simmons
5 Paytes; his sisters-in-law, Gertrude Paytes, Eva Paytes, Joyce
6 Wolfe, and Beverly (John) Willis; his brothers-in-law, Harry
7 (Carrie) Simmons and Terry (Jenean) Simmons; his nephews,
8 Antonio (Jacqueline) Paytes, Rodney Paytes, Steven (Cheryl)
9 Wolfe, Michael (Terri) Simmons, Chad (Carole) Simmons, and
10 Terrence Simmons; his nieces, Michelle (Calvin) Thompson,
11 Carmelle Paytes, Sharon Hinton, Tanya (Glenn) Harris, and Kelli
12 Johnson; his great-nephews, Anthony and Bryce Paytes; his
13 cousins, Delores Rose and JoAnn Barnes; his many grand-nieces
14 and nephews; and his many friends, associates, and fraternity
15 brothers; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
17 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
18 all who knew and loved him, the death of Adolph Paytes; and be
19 it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to the family of Adolph Paytes.
