SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Alan J. Campbell of Tallahassee, Florida, formerly of Naperville, on Friday, February 3, 2006; and

WHEREAS, He was born in Canton, Ohio, to Roseann and Charles Campbell and was raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut; he received a bachelor of arts degree in international studies in 1972 from Assumption College in Worchester, Massachusetts; that same year, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia; he went on to Ohio State University for a master's degree in urban geography, which he received two years later; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Campbell began his career in research and development at an insurance firm; he started in the association business in 1979 when he joined the Houston Apartment Association in Texas as their legislative advocate and worked his way up to vice president by the time he left in 1984; and

WHEREAS, He moved to the Austin Apartment Association and worked there as vice president for three years before he became the vice president of the National Apartment Association for three years; from 1990 to 1994, Mr. Campbell served as executive vice president of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, For the next 11 years, Mr. Campbell was head of the Window & Door Manufacturers Association when the family settled in Naperville; while he was president of the Window & Door Manufacturers Association, he had the skillful ability of taking the needs and wants of individual members who were competitors and molding all into agreement; he helped companies, both large and small, to have a voice in the association and build a consensus; and

WHEREAS, From 1994 to February 2005, Mr. Campbell led the Window & Door Manufacturers Association in Des Plaines and helped move the association into the future; his success in dealing with a diverse group of people is attributed to the fact that people trusted him; he went on to serve as the president of the Florida Society of Association Executives; and

WHEREAS, He is remembered as a warm, congenial, and sincere gentleman; he believed in getting as much out of life as he could and cherished every moment, taking time to appreciate special occasions or the quiet moments with family; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Alan J. Campbell has been deeply felt by many, especially his beloved wife of 34 years, Patricia; his loving daughters, Meghan Campbell, Maureen Campbell, and Emily (Curtis) Webster; his grandson, Ryan Webster; his mother, Roseann Campbell; and his siblings, Cathy Mila, Laurie Carnal, and Bruce Campbell; he was preceded in death by his father; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Alan J. Campbell, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
