SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Hazel Moore of North
4 Chicago on Tuesday, January 17,2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore was born on July 4, 1929 to John W. and
6 Susan Harrison Shelton in Winona, Mississippi; she was married
7 to Coleman R. Moore in 1947; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Hazel Moore moved to North Chicago in 1952, and
9 joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the pastor Reverend W.D.
10 Kilgore; She served on the Usher Board and on the Trustee
11 Board; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore was a pillar of her North Chicago
13 neighborhood; she was the first Black Woman elected to the
14 North Chicago City Council, where she served for 8 years; she
15 also served on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scout
16 Council, as Leader of Junior and Cadet troops and co-leader of
17 a Brownie troop; she was elected and served 2 terms on the
18 School Board for School District #123; she was an original
19 member of the Progressive Community Organization; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her parents;
21 her brothers, Howard, Richard, Luther, and Lawrence; and her
22 sisters, Maggie Shelton, Amie Brown, Annie M. Clemons, Mary
23 Roberts, and Lillye Moore; and
 
24     WHEREAS, The passing of Hazel Moore has been deeply felt by
25 many, especially her husband, Coleman R. Moore; her sister,
26 Hallie King; her sons, Dennis (Margaret) Moore and James "Tony"
27 Moore; her daughters, Carolyn (Charles) Butler, Rhonda and
28 Audrey Moore, Tamara (Artis) Yancey, and Melissa (Andy)
29 Delgado; her adopted son, William Franks; her adopted daughter,
30 Sheila France; her twenty-eight grandchildren; and her six

1 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
2     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4 Hazel Moore, and we extend our sincerest condolences to her
5 family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
6 further
 
7     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8 presented to her family as an expression of our deepest
9 sympathy for their loss.
