SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Barry Crown, recently of Jupiter, Florida, on January 12, 2006; and

WHEREAS, On October 17, 1930, Barry Crown was born into the Herman Crown family in Evanston, where he spent his childhood before he left for horizons across the country and across the world; and

WHEREAS, The 1950s was a decade of achievement for Barry Crown, he graduated from Yale University with degrees in engineering and law, served as a United States Army officer in the Korean War, and functioned as the Operational Director of the Materials Service Corporation, the company founded by his uncles; and

WHEREAS, In 1970, Barry and Beverly married and began their 35 years of marriage that were filled with love and the activities that they so enjoyed together, operating Lifeguide a popular Palm Beach fitness facility, traveling the world, learning new sporting activities, and climbing Mt. Everest; and

WHEREAS, Barry Crown was an entrepreneur who founded several companies including Burton Dixie and Henderson Camp Products, which always produced quality goods; and

WHEREAS, Barry Crown, as a philanthropist, made certain that his efforts truly provided help and happiness to people in need or provided strong support for the worthy causes in which he believed; and

WHEREAS, Barry Crown served on the board of the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League whose mission is to shelter homeless animals, furnish them with medical services, find homes for neglected animals, and enhance the bond between people and animals; and

WHEREAS, Barry and Beverly Crown loved dogs, especially their three Papillion breed dogs, and they founded the "Walk for the Animals", a fundraiser for the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League that hosts hundreds of people and their dogs to help needy dogs and cats and provide free spay and neuter surgeries; and

WHEREAS, Higher education was recognized by Barry Crown for its critical role in our future and he contributed his talents as a board member of three fine institutions, namely the Honors College of Florida Atlantic University, Roosevelt University, which conferred upon him the title of honorary trustee, and Columbia College, which designated him as a lifetime trustee; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Barry Crown is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Beverly; his children Laurie Crown, Donna Crown, Bruce Crown, Bradley Crown, Debra Day, Tawne Day, and Lance Day; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Florence Rothman and Dr. Irene Merwin; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Barry Crown and we extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
