| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Dr. Irving Favus of Peoria | 4 |
| on January 16, 2006; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago on June 24,1909, the oldest | 6 |
| son of Abe and Fannie Favus; he graduated from Peoria High | 7 |
| School in 1928, where he was on the cross country team and was | 8 |
| news editor of the school paper, Opinion; he married his wife, | 9 |
| Anna, on November 3, 1965; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Favus attended the University of Illinois at | 11 |
| Champaign for pre-med and medical school; while in school, he | 12 |
| worked as a sports editor of the Daily Illini, the university | 13 |
| newspaper; after interning at Cook County Hospital, he | 14 |
| practiced with his Uncle Nathan (his mother's brother) in | 15 |
| Chicago; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, In January 1941, he enlisted in the United States | 17 |
| Army Reserves at Fort Sheridan; he then transferred to duty at | 18 |
| Fort Robinson, Arkansas; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Favus spent five years and one month on active | 20 |
| duty; he served 15 months with General George Patton, earning | 21 |
| five Battle Stars and a Bronze medal as commanding officer of | 22 |
| the 110th Medical Battalion; his unit took care of 30,000 | 23 |
| wounded, mostly German soldiers, American GIs, and French | 24 |
| civilians; in 1945, Life magazine published an article on Dr. | 25 |
| Favus' dedication beyond the call of duty; and

| WHEREAS, Following discharge, Dr. Favus moved to Peoria to | 27 |
| practice with his brother, Leonard; his son, Mark, reviewing | 28 |
| records of the partnership, concluded they had treated over 20% | 29 |
| of the Peoria population, which numbered over 100,000; and

| WHEREAS, He was active on the board of B'nai B'rith, a | 2 |
| member of Agudas Achim Synagogue, and was a contributor to | 3 |
| Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Bradley University; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Favus left private practice in 1984 to accept | 5 |
| an offer from Methodist Medical Center of Illinois and held | 6 |
| many executive positions in both the hospital and the | 7 |
| foundation; until his retirement three years ago at the ripe | 8 |
| age of 93, he was the senior consultant to the CEO; he and his | 9 |
| wife founded the Favus Foundation for Hospice Care at | 10 |
| Methodist; and

| WHEREAS, Dr. Favus was a founding member of Peoria's Chief | 12 |
| Club and enjoyed attending their games; to unwind after a busy | 13 |
| day, he liked to watch the Bulls, Major League games (White Sox | 14 |
| fan), read, play a round of golf with his brothers, and go to | 15 |
| Seanie's boat (the Par-A-Dice); and

| WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Irving Favus has been deeply | 17 |
| felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his devoted | 18 |
| wife, Anna; his sons, Mark and Don (Sheri); his daughter, Donna | 19 |
| (Tim) Patrick; his brother, Robert; his grandson, Sean; his | 20 |
| granddaughters, Jessica, Tanya, and Erin; and the thousands of | 21 |
| patients he has served over the years; he was preceded in death | 22 |
| by three younger brothers, Charles, Joseph, and Leonard; | 23 |
| therefore, be it
| 24 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 25 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 26 |
| Dr. Irving Favus and we extend our deepest sympathy to his | 27 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 28 |
| further
| 29 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 30 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest | 31 |
| condolences.
