SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of James H. "Jeep" Greer Jr. of Alton on Friday, January 6, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Born June 21, 1953, in Denmark, Tennessee, he was the son of Stella Greer of Alton and the late James H. Greer Sr.; a graduate of Alton Senior High School, he attended the University of Colorado and received an associate degree from Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey; and

WHEREAS, He married the former Jane Pitts on December 11, 1993; he was employed by the city of Alton in various capacities, including Parks and Recreation, Public Works, and the Police Department as assistant chief of Animal Control; and

WHEREAS, He was a lifelong member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, where he was president of the usher board and a member of the Brotherhood; he was active in the church and community, doing whatever was needed; he chaired the Restoration Committee for Hellrung Park; and

WHEREAS, The passing of James H. "Jeep" Greer Jr. has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Jane; his sons, Lindsey and Cedric Greer and Justin Washpun-Greer and his wife, Chiquita; his daughters, Danielle McDonald and her husband, David, and Erica Smith; his 10 grandchildren; his sisters, Barbara Mitchell and her husband, Jimmy, Valerie Greer, Stacey Greer, Brenda Slack and her husband, Danny, and Nancy Chapman; his brothers, Gregory and Ronald Greer and Harold Greer and his wife, Donna; and his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; he was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents, and a nephew; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James H. "Jeep" Greer Jr., and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
