SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Sam Filippo of Waukegan on
4 Tuesday, November 22, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on September 7, 1923, in Chicago; he
6 graduated from Fenger High School, class of 1940, and was a
7 member of the 1939 Chicago City Champion Football Team; he
8 received his B.A. and M.A. in English from DePaul University;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, He married Adeline (nee Rizzolo) on October 8,
11 1944; he played professional baseball with the Cleveland
12 Indians and football; he enlisted in the United States Army
13 after Pearl Harbor and was assigned to the anti-aircraft
14 artillery; he served in combat at Dutch Harbor, Aleutian
15 Islands, during the only enemy ground assault on U.S. soil and
16 served in combat in Europe during 1944-1945; and
 
17     WHEREAS, He was a scholar, athlete, devoted husband and
18 father, and a public servant; he was an English teacher and
19 Assistant Principal at Waukegan Township High School,
20 beginning in 1952, and was Athletic Director and Assistant
21 Principal at Deerfield-Highland Park School District until his
22 retirement; he served the City of Waukegan for 24 years as City
23 Treasurer and City Clerk; and
 
24     WHEREAS, The passing of Sam Filippo has been deeply felt by
25 many, especially by his wife of 61 years, Adeline (nee
26 Rizzolo); his children, Sam Filippo, Marie Ryan, Tina (Terry)
27 O'Malie, and Anthony (Julie) Filippo; his grandchildren, Matt
28 and Marissa Filippo, Nicole (Chad) Ryan-Brown, Jeremiah Ryan,
29 Katherine, Tony, and Gina Filippo, and Hank and Sam O'Malie;
30 and his sister, Rea Albarello; he was preceded in death by his
31 parents, Antonio and Mary Filippo; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3 Sam Filippo, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
4 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5 further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to him family as an expression of our deepest
8 sympathy.
