| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Joseph W. Spears of Peoria | 4 |
| on November 28, 2005; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Spears was born on December 9, 1920, in | 6 |
| Liverpool, England, to Joseph and Alice Whitehead Spears; he
| 7 |
| married Theresa I. Fitzpatrick
on August 18, 1951,
in Chicago; | 8 |
| and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He was a sales representative for American | 10 |
| Standard for 30 years and a day manager at Jimmy's Bar from | 11 |
| 1982 until his death; he was a World War II Army veteran and | 12 |
| was wounded in Okinawa; he was the recipient of two Bronze | 13 |
| Stars and a member of the 96th Infantry Division; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic | 15 |
| Church; St. Patrick's Society; Knights of Columbus 427, Third | 16 |
| Degree, Spalding Council; and #206 Fourth Degree, Spalding | 17 |
| Assembly, Alhambra, and served as past grand commander and also | 18 |
| past district deputy; and the Disabled American Veterans; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, He also was an honorary alumnus from Bradley | 20 |
| University and was a member of the Bradley Dug Out Club Alumni | 21 |
| Association, the Mt. Carmel High School Alumni Association, the | 22 |
| Peoria Notre Dame Boosters, and the Independent Sportsman's | 23 |
| Club; and
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, | 25 |
| Regina Joseph Spears, and his brother, George; and
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Joseph W. Spears is felt by all who | 27 |
| knew and loved him, especially his wife, Theresa; his sons, | 28 |
| Joseph P.
(Susan) Spears, James Spears, William (Debra) Spears, | 29 |
| Robert Spears, Michael (Julie) Spears, Patrick (Cindy) Spears, |

| and Thomas (Angie) Spears; his nineteen grandchildren; and his | 2 |
| brother, William Spears; therefore, be it
| 3 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 4 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 5 |
| Joseph W. Spears and extend our sincerest condolences to his | 6 |
| family, friends, and community; and be it further
| 7 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 8 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our deepest | 9 |
| sympathy.
