SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Jim Stowell of San
4 Clemente, California, formerly of Peoria, on November 5, 2005;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mr. Stowell was born in Davenport, Iowa, on
7 January 13, 1925; his family later moved to Peoria; he met his
8 future wife, Peggy Wulff, while they were students at Peoria
9 Central High School; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He joined the Army Air Force during World War II
11 and became a B-24 pilot; after the war, he married Peggy and
12 was hired by United Airlines, retiring as a captain; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He loved flying and flew everything from DC-3s to
14 747s; he was also an accomplished golfer and member of the San
15 Clemente Men's Golf Club and the Orange County Seniors; and
 
16     WHEREAS, His second passion was baseball and the Cubs; he
17 also loved music, Dixieland jazz, swing, and the songs of "the
18 greatest generation", but most of all, he loved his family; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his son, David, and
20 his granddaughter, Kari; and
 
21     WHEREAS, The passing of Jim Stowell is felt by all who knew
22 and loved him, especially his wife of 59 years, Margaret
23 "Peggy"; his brother, Joe (Marilyn) Stowell; his sons, Jim Jr.
24 (Jan) and John (Stina); his daughters, Kathy (Frank) Contos,
25 Carol (Bob) Schmidt, and Margo (Larry) Plummer; his 10
26 grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; and his many
27 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
28     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL

1 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2 Jim Stowell and extend our most sincere condolences to his
3 family, friends, and community; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
6 sympathy.
