SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Jim Stowell of San Clemente, California, formerly of Peoria, on November 5, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stowell was born in Davenport, Iowa, on January 13, 1925; his family later moved to Peoria; he met his future wife, Peggy Wulff, while they were students at Peoria Central High School; and

WHEREAS, He joined the Army Air Force during World War II and became a B-24 pilot; after the war, he married Peggy and was hired by United Airlines, retiring as a captain; and

WHEREAS, He loved flying and flew everything from DC-3s to 747s; he was also an accomplished golfer and member of the San Clemente Men's Golf Club and the Orange County Seniors; and

WHEREAS, His second passion was baseball and the Cubs; he also loved music, Dixieland jazz, swing, and the songs of "the greatest generation", but most of all, he loved his family; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his son, David, and his granddaughter, Kari; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Jim Stowell is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife of 59 years, Margaret "Peggy"; his brother, Joe (Marilyn) Stowell; his sons, Jim Jr. (Jan) and John (Stina); his daughters, Kathy (Frank) Contos, Carol (Bob) Schmidt, and Margo (Larry) Plummer; his 10 grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jim Stowell and extend our most sincere condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
