SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Luke Matarelli of Peoria on November 4, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Matarelli was born June 1, 1926, in Toluca, to Luca and Teresa Antonacci Matarelli; he married Norma Lea Fisher on January 10, 1948, in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 on an aircraft carrier during World War II; and

WHEREAS, He attended Bradley University, where he majored in architectural engineering and drawing; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Matarelli was a businessman in Peoria for over 50 years; he was a building contractor and real estate developer, owning and operating L. Matarelli & Son Construction, along with Matarelli Equipment, Matarelli Fine Furniture, Peoria Trading Post, and L.M. Enterprises, and was a managing partner in Mid-Land Trust, along with other businesses; he was well-respected in the business community; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church, but also attended Sacred Heart and St. Sharbel's Catholic churches, all of Peoria; and

WHEREAS, He was a past member of Sunset Hills Country Club; he loved golfing and was an avid collector; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Joe and Don Matarelli; and his sisters, Clara Hunter and Jenny Kaufman; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Luke Matarelli is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Norma; his son, Luke Randall Matarelli; his daughters, Tonya Kay (Dallas) Sumpter, Pamela Rae Matarelli, Lu Ann Lea Freeman, Lynn (Keith Bufano) Matarelli, and Renee Sue Matarelli; his nine grandchildren; his great-granddaughter; his brother, Frank Matarelli; and his sister, Irma Barden; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Luke Matarelli and extend our most sincere condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
