SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were deeply
3 saddened to learn of the death of Earl Duke Sr. on October 15,
4 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Earl Duke Sr. was born December 24, 1933 in
6 Chicago, the son of Roger Herald and Pearlie Mae Herald; his
7 parents, a sister, and two brothers preceded him in death; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Earl Duke Sr. attended and graduated from
9 Forestville Elementary School and attended DuSable High
10 School; he was baptized and attended Ebenezer Baptist Church;
11 he also attended ROTC there; he learned many Christian values,
12 which he carried with him throughout his life; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Earl Duke Sr. was a fun loving person; he was
14 known to his friends as "Duke of Earl"; he was the inspiration
15 of that song; he also was comical to his family and friends;
16 and
 
17     WHEREAS, Earl Duke Sr. was a great father to his children;
18 he was a good grandfather to his grandchildren; he will be
19 sorely missed by all who knew him; to mourn his passing and
20 cherish his memory, he leaves his oldest sister, Hope B. Duke,
21 Rosalee Lewis, Ruthella Smith, and youngest brother, Roger
22 Herald Jr.; and
 
23     WHEREAS, Earl leaves to cherish his memory his former wife,
24 Adrienne, with whom he fathered six children: Earl Jr. (Lisa),
25 Karl, Darryl, Derrick, Darlene, and Doreen; eight
26 grandchildren: Chris, Derrick, Shakita, Antoya, Anthony,
27 Jessica, Shuanta, and Carl Jr.; great grandchildren Marlez,
28 Derren Jr., Antwon, and Anthony Jr.; and a host of nieces,
29 great nieces, and great nephews; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
3 Earl Duke Sr. and extend our sincerest condolences to his
4 family, friends, and community; and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Earl Duke Sr. as an expression of
7 our deepest sympathy.
