SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Charles "Goose" Sullivan of Herrin, formerly of Johnston City, on September 28, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Charlie was born August 2, 1942 in Cairo to Kenneth Lewis and Mary (Clayton) Sullivan; he graduated from Cairo High School in 1960; he married Dorothy Willis of Cape Girardeau, Missouri ; and

WHEREAS, He was an experienced electrician for Sullivan Electric before he was disabled by multiple sclerosis; and

WHEREAS, "Goose" Sullivan was a renowned champion duck and goose caller, amassing many national and Illinois State awards within the first 15 years after his high school graduation; for example, he placed first nationally 7 times in the Coon Squall category and he placed first 15 times in Illinois in several categories, including Champion of Champions; most impressively, in national calling contests, "Goose" achieved the National Title of Champion of Champions 4 times; "Goose" was known far and wide as a legendary hunting guide; and

WHEREAS, Charlie played bass guitar for the popular '60s band 'The Mod's' and enjoyed playing with other members of 'The Mod's', Kyle Lehning, John Steinhouse, Neil Needham, and Donnie Dickerson when they entertained the crowds that came to hear them play; and

WHEREAS, While many people were saddened to learn of his death, Charlie's passing also reminded his friends of his unforgettable wit, humor, and charm; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his father; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Charles Sullivan is felt by all who knew and loved him, but especially by his mother, Mary; his daughter, Ashley; his sons, Brian and Matt; his grandchildren, Matti, Clayton, and Cameron; his sister, Susan (Tom) Josey; a nephew, Robby Josey; and his aunt, Stella Bryant; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charles "Goose" Sullivan and we extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
