SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Mary "Jane" Hunter on Tuesday, April 5, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mary "Jane" Waters was born on May 25, 1933, in Shelby, Mississippi, to Cary and Geneva Waters; she was the first born of three children; her brothers, Robert and Sylvester preceded her in death; and

WHEREAS, On August 24, 1948, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior under the leadership of Reverend R.L. Jenkins of White Plains Missionary Baptist Church; in April of 1953, she moved to Chicago, where she joined Holy Star Light Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, where she diligently served on the Nurses Aide Committee until her health started to fail; and

WHEREAS, On October 17, 1953, she married the love of her life, Jessie L. Hunter Sr., who preceded her in death; together, they were the parents of five children, one son, Karl Joseph, preceded her in death; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Hunter worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. for 17 years; she was a loving mother, sincere grandmother, and a special great-granny; she was full of laughter and great humor; she was a high-spirited, caring, and loving person and was cherished by family and friends; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Mary "Jane" Hunter has been deeply felt by many, especially her daughters, Penny (Caleb), Glenda Faye, and Cheryl (Tony); her son, Jesse Jr. (Janet); her step-children, Bobbie Jean and Ivory Joe; her nine grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren; and her many relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mary "Jane" Hunter, and we extend our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mrs. Hunter as an expression of our sincere condolences for their loss.
