SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Dorothy Jean Miller on May 14, 2005; and

WHEREAS, She was born on August 28, 1935, to XL and Mary Bracy-McGee in Brookhaven, Mississippi; she went to beauty school and received her license as a beautician and retired from Northside Cleaners; she was also an Eastern Star; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy and Eddie were married for 47 years and raised 7 children; she took great joy in caring for her grandchildren; her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews loved going over to granny's house; and

WHEREAS, After moving to Chicago, she united with Omega Baptist Church; on Monday, September 12, 1983, Mrs. Miller along with Rev. Alvin Moore and sixteen other steadfast Christians assembled at the Brookteer's residence; these faithful members were known as "The Christian Believers"; on November 22, 1983, "The Christian Believers" became Alpha Temple Missionary Baptist Church; Mrs. Miller was President of the choir twice and remained a faithful member until her illness and death; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Dorothy Jean Miller has been deeply felt by many, especially her husband, Eddie; her sister, Mable (Willie); her brothers, Isaiah (Maggie), XL "Sonny", and James (Bertha); her daughters, Little Joyce, Big Joyce, and Cynthia; her sons, Willie (Glyness), John Eddie (Mary), David (Janice), and John (Shulon); her seventeen grandchildren; her seven great-grandchildren; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends; she was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Pearl, Shirley Ann, and Irene; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dorothy Jean Miller, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
