SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Margaret Elizabeth Baker Martin of Aurora, formerly of Sycamore and Oregon, Illinois, on Friday, June 24, 2005; and

WHEREAS, She was born on July 31, 1916, to Ulysses and Frances (Brown) Baker in Edwardsville, where she grew up; she was the beloved wife of Fred Lansing Martin; they married in 1937 in a double ceremony in Huntsville, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Martin was active in various women's groups over the years, including Methodist Women's Fellowship, bridge clubs, and she was recent Past President of Questers, an antiques enthusiasts club; her passions were the Chicago Tribune morning crossword puzzle, her bridge games with friends, baking traditional angel food cakes, and her timeless devotion to her children and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Margaret Martin has been deeply felt by many, especially her children, Frances Sheffer, Bradley Martin, and Beverly (Michael) Mason; her grandchildren, Scott (Cynthia) and Stuart (Linda) Kuntzelman, Jessica (Joe) Silver, Ashley (Jason) Dimm, Jay (Amanda) Martin, and Lindsay and Grant Mason; and her eight great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Martin in 1981; her son, Jeffrey (Margo) Martin; two infant children; and her sister, Mildred (Clen) Lawson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Margaret Elizabeth Baker Martin, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
