SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Lauretta E. Opeka (nee
4 Merlock) of Waukegan on Tuesday, August 2, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born on December 30, 1934, in Waukegan,
6 where she was a lifelong resident and former member of Mother
7 of God Church; she married Michael Opeka Jr. on June 25, 1955;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, She retired in 1993 from the County of Lake, where
10 she was Executive Assistant in the Purchasing Department; prior
11 to working for Lake County, she was employed in the insurance
12 industry and at Abbott Labs in North Chicago; and
 
13     WHEREAS, She was a member of St. Dismas Church in Waukegan,
14 the Bonnie Brook Nine Hole Golf League, where she had held the
15 positions of President and Secretary, the Waukegan Moose Lodge
16 #706, and the Christian Mothers Auxiliary; her hobbies were
17 golf, shopping, the QVC channel, art fairs, gardening,
18 traveling, and enjoying lunches and dinners with friends and
19 family, especially her grandchildren; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Mrs. Opeka was preceded in death by her husband,
21 Michael, on June 20, 2003; her daughter, Victoria "Vicki"
22 Opeka, on January 17, 1992; her brother, John Merlock, in 2003;
23 and her father, John Merlock Sr., in 1992; and
 
24     WHEREAS, The passing of Lauretta E. Opeka has been deeply
25 felt by many, especially her son, Michael (Cindy) Opeka, III;
26 her daughter, Susan M. (Robert Byford) Opeka; her
27 grandchildren, Robert and Lauren Opeka-Byford, and Shannon and
28 Scott Opeka; her mother, Victoria Merlock (nee Jappel); her
29 brother, Tom (Candie) Merlock; and her sisters-in-law, Ann and
30 Jay Chamernik, Kay Opeka, and Judy Merlock; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3 Lauretta E. Opeka, and we extend our sincere condolences to her
4 family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
5 further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to her family as an expression of our deepest
8 sympathy.
