SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Lela M. Duncan of Carterville on July 26, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Duncan was born August 24, 1917, in Hurdland, Missouri, to Fred and Anna (Kayson) Painter; she married Frederick H. Duncan on October 21, 1951; and

WHEREAS, She retired in 1979 as secretary and treasurer from First Federal Savings and Loan in Herrin after 20 years of service; she was a member of First Christian Church in Herrin, served on the planning committee for Shawnee Christian Nursing Center, belonged to Herrin Senior Citizens, and was a member of Carterville Business and Professional Women's Club; and

WHEREAS, She enjoyed working with her hands, making crafts, crocheting, and painting; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Leta Mae Swind, and one foster brother, Fred Hull; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Lela Duncan is felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her husband, Fred; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Virginia and Bill Harlow; her brothers-in-law, Herbert Duncan, John Duncan and his wife, Lela, James Duncan and his wife, Doris, and Russell Duncan; her nephew, Bill Swind and his wife, Ellen; and her nieces, Darlene Vaughn and Elene and Floyd Mugegge; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lela Duncan and extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
