SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of William Howard Davis of McClure on July 29, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was born January 23, 1916, in Cape Girardeau, to Jeff and Nora Seabaugh Davis; he married Gladys Davis on January 1, 1940, in St. Louis; and

WHEREAS, He was a self-employed farmer for more than 64 years, farming west of Cape Girardeau and in Chaffee, Missouri; he moved north of McClure in 1948, and was still farming with his sons and grandsons at Davis Farms on Illinois 3; he raised cattle and row crops; he served as commissioner on the Drainage and Levee Committee for 20 years, and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church; he had a place at Bennett Springs, Missouri, for trout fishing for nine years; and

WHEREAS, The passing of William Davis is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Gladys; his sons, Bill and Linda Davis and Tom and Martha Davis; his brother, Wilmer Davis; his grandsons, Marty Davis, Drew Davis, Matt Davis, and Joe Davis; and his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Allyssa, and Megan Davis; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William Davis and extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
