SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of James J. "Jimmy" Galt of Shawneetown on Friday, June 10, 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was born on September 14, 1920, in Shawneetown to Max and Marie (Goetzman) Galt; he married Leona E. Bahl in Austin, Texas, on July 31, 1943; she preceded him in death on June 9, 1992; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Galt was a 1942 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science degree in commerce; he had been in banking for 52 years and served as chairman and president of Illinois One Bancorp and chairman of the board with banks in Shawneetown, Elizabethtown, and Golconda; and

WHEREAS, He valiantly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II; he was a second lieutenant and was awarded a Purple Heart; and

WHEREAS, He was a 60-year member of the Shawneetown American Legion Post No. 585, the Ridgway Knights of Columbus, the Shawneetown Chamber of Commerce, the Gallatin County Housing Authority, Holy Name Society, and the Kiwanis Club; he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown; and

WHEREAS, His passing has been deeply felt by many, especially his daughters, Mary Ann Patton and Beth (Phil) Goines; his son, Stephen J. (Tammy) Galt; his six grandchildren; his dear friend, Charlotte Randolph; his four great-grandchildren; his nieces and nephews; his many great-nieces and great-nephews; and his many close friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James J. "Jimmy" Galt, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
