SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of James J. "Jimmy" Galt of
4 Shawneetown on Friday, June 10, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on September 14, 1920, in Shawneetown
6 to Max and Marie (Goetzman) Galt; he married Leona E. Bahl in
7 Austin, Texas, on July 31, 1943; she preceded him in death on
8 June 9, 1992; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Galt was a 1942 graduate of the University of
10 Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science degree in commerce; he
11 had been in banking for 52 years and served as chairman and
12 president of Illinois One Bancorp and chairman of the board
13 with banks in Shawneetown, Elizabethtown, and Golconda; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He valiantly served his country as a member of the
15 U.S. Army during World War II; he was a second lieutenant and
16 was awarded a Purple Heart; and
 
17     WHEREAS, He was a 60-year member of the Shawneetown
18 American Legion Post No. 585, the Ridgway Knights of Columbus,
19 the Shawneetown Chamber of Commerce, the Gallatin County
20 Housing Authority, Holy Name Society, and the Kiwanis Club; he
21 was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown; and
 
22     WHEREAS, His passing has been deeply felt by many,
23 especially his daughters, Mary Ann Patton and Beth (Phil)
24 Goines; his son, Stephen J. (Tammy) Galt; his six
25 grandchildren; his dear friend, Charlotte Randolph; his four
26 great-grandchildren; his nieces and nephews; his many
27 great-nieces and great-nephews; and his many close friends;
28 therefore, be it
 
29     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL

1 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2 James J. "Jimmy" Galt, and we extend our sincerest condolences
3 to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
4 it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
7 sympathy.
