SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Helen M. DeMand of Wood River on Sunday, April 10, 2005; and

WHEREAS, She was born on March 2, 1925, in Ironton, Missouri, to Sherman and Hattie (Fahland) Barnes; she married Jacob A. DeMand on June 27, 1943, in Fredericktown, Missouri; he preceded her in death on August 5, 2000; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. DeMand had worked as a clerk at Reese Drugs in Wood River and was retired; she was an active resident at Foxes Grove Retirement Community; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Helen M. DeMand has been deeply felt by many, especially her daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Gilreath and her husband, Curtis; her son, James "Pete" DeMand; her daughter-in-law, Mary (the wife of the late John E. DeMand); her grandchildren, Dawn Kessler, Nathan Gilreath, Jason DeMand, Jessica Laird, Jim DeMand, Laura Hamilton, and Nina Slifer; her great-grandchildren, Collin, Kaitlyn, Megan, Jeffrey, John, and Kayla; and her brother, Sherman A. Barnes and his wife, Rosemarie; in addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Gertrude Selinger; and her brothers, Robert, Pat, and Edgar Barnes; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Helen M. DeMand, and we extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
