SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Neanetta "Nettie" Smith of Springfield on Sunday, May 15, 2005; and

WHEREAS, She was born on June 18, 1918, in Springfield to William J. and Katherine Schierlang Conroy; she married Harold J. Smith on January 28, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri; he preceded her in death on February 5, 1994; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; she loved to play Bingo and cards; and

WHEREAS, When she passed from this life, Mrs. Smith was in the presence of each one of her children; her passing has been deeply felt by many, especially her sons, Harold Martin (wife, Mary Ann) Smith, Ronald E. (wife, Donna) Smith, and Edward J. (wife, Deborah) Smith; her daughters, Karen Marie (husband, Richard E.) Phillips and Sandra Jo (husband, Jack) Connor; her nine grandchildren; her 17 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Marie Magro and Lorraine Turley; and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins; in addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; her grandsons, William Connor and Brian Phillips; and her sister, Kathleen Turasky; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Neanetta "Nettie" Smith, and we extend our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our sincerest condolences during their time of bereavement.
