SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Catherine A. Hawks of Geneva on March 11, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Hawks was born June 5, 1915, on the Holter family farm near Batavia, the daughter of George and Mary Holter; and

WHEREAS, She grew up in Batavia and graduated from Batavia High School in 1934; on June 12, 1937, she married William Hawks and they began a life of farming together on the Holter family farm, which would later become Fermilab; after raising their four children, she took a job at the Mill Race Inn in Geneva; and

WHEREAS, She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and, in later years, she became a member of St. Gall Church in Elburn; she was also a member of the Catholic Daughters for over 50 years; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Hawks was larger than life and she dedicated herself to everything she did; prayer was an important part of her life and her steadfast faith and her devotion to her church saw her through a lifetime of triumphs and tragedies; she spent many hours reading cookbooks, she had a large and varied Hummel collection, she loved to wear hats, and she never met a suit or a pair of shoes she didn't like; above all, it was her family that was most important; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, William; one sister, Evelyn Kramer; and one son-in-law, Ray Marmo; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Catherine A. Hawks is felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her children, Richard (Arlene) Hawks, Rita Marmo, Denny (Ande) Hawks, and Mary (Rich) Wheeler; her ten grandchildren, Victor Hawks, Janet Marmo, Jeff (Jill) Marmo and their children, Jake and Cammie, Joel (Dawn) Marmo and their daughter, Isabella, Clint (Carrie) Hawks and their son, Brady, Jaysen (Brianne) Hawks, Charity Assel, Chuck (Natalie) Assel, Cliff Assel, and Katie Wheeler; her sister, Marge Roesler; her many nieces and nephews; and her great family of friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn that passing of Catherine A. Hawks and extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
