SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Richard Way Woodcock of Godfrey on Friday, April 1, 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was born July 1, 1923, in Lincoln to Rives and Helen C. (Leffingwell) Woodcock; he married Lois Lutz, who preceded him in death in 1964; he married Mary Poulos on May 6, 1965, in Alton; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Woodcock valiantly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II; he graduated from Shurtleff College and was employed by Mississippi Lime Co. as vice president for 37 years; and

WHEREAS, He served on the board of the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, Pride Inc., and Riverbend Headstart, and was a volunteer at Alton Memorial Hospital; he was a member and past president of Lockhaven Country Club; his great love was golf and telling stories, innumerable funny stories; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Richard Way Woodcock has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Mary; his daughter, Marta Steiner, and her husband, Steve; his grandchild, Evan Steiner; his sisters, Barbara Morris and Virginia Coles; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard Way Woodcock, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our sincere condolences.
