SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

745 ILCS 49/72

Amends the Good Samaritan Act. Adds interior design professionals to the list of professionals who have limited liability for professional services provided without fee in response to disasters or catastrophic events. Effective immediately.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning civil immunity.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Good Samaritan Act is amended by changing Section 72 as follows:

Sec. 72. Professional engineers, architects, land surveyors, interior design professionals, and structural engineers; exemption from civil liability for professional services in response to disasters or catastrophic events. Any professional engineer, architect, land surveyor, interior design professional, or structural engineer who in good faith, without fee, provides professional services in response to a disaster or other catastrophic event shall not be liable for civil damages as a result of his or her acts or omissions in providing the professional services, except for willful and wanton misconduct. This immunity applies to services that are provided without fee during or within 60 days following the end of a disaster or catastrophic event.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
