    Amends the Children and Family Services Act. Provides that the Department may not terminate the scholarship program provided in this Section due to a recipient's age.

1     AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Children and Family Services Act is amended
5 by changing Section 8 as follows:
 
6     (20 ILCS 505/8)  (from Ch. 23, par. 5008)
7     Sec. 8. Scholarships and fee waivers. Each year the
8 Department may select from among the children under care, or
9 children formerly under care who have been adopted or are in
10 the subsidized guardianship program, a maximum of 48 students
11 (at least 4 of whom shall be children of veterans) who have
12 completed 4 years in an accredited high school; the children
13 selected shall be eligible for scholarships and fee waivers
14 which will entitle them, regardless of the age they may have
15 attained, to 4 consecutive years of community college,
16 university, or college education. Selection shall be made on
17 the basis of scholastic record, aptitude, and general interest
18 in higher education. In accordance with this Act, tuition
19 scholarships and fee waivers shall be available to such
20 students at any university or college maintained by the State
21 of Illinois. The Department shall provide maintenance and
22 school expenses, except tuition and fees, during the academic
23 years to supplement the students' earnings or other resources
24 so long as they consistently maintain scholastic records which
25 are acceptable to their schools and to the Department. Students
26 may attend other colleges and universities, if scholarships are
27 awarded them, and receive the same benefits for maintenance and
28 other expenses as those students attending any Illinois State
29 community college, university, or college under this Section.
