SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-663 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for issuance of special registration plates for a retired mayor of a city or president of a village or incorporated town at an additional initial charge of $15 and an additional renewal charge of $2. Provides that the additional charges shall go to the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-663 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-663 new)
7     Sec. 3-663. Special registration plate for a retired mayor
8 of a city or president of a village or incorporated town.
9     (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and
10 applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may
11 issue special registration plates to retired mayors of cities
12 or presidents of villages or incorporated towns, bearing
13 appropriate wording or abbreviations indicating that the
14 holder is a retired mayor of a city or president of a village
15 or incorporated town. "Retired mayor of a city or president of
16 a village or incorporated town" means any individual who has
17 served as a mayor of a city or president of a village or
18 incorporated town for a minimum of 6 years.
19     The special plates issued under this Section shall be
20 affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division or
21 motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
22 8,000 pounds.
23     Plates issued under this Section shall expire according to
24 the multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this
25 Code.
26     (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be
27 wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. Appropriate
28 documentation, as determined by the Secretary, shall accompany
29 each application. The Secretary may, in his or her discretion,
30 allow the plates to be issued as vanity or personalized plates
31 in accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this Code.
32     (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a

1 $15 fee for original issuance in addition to the appropriate
2 registration fee. This additional fee shall be deposited into
3 the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund, to be used
4 by the Secretary to help defray the administrative processing
5 costs.
6     For each registration renewal period, a $2 fee, in addition
7 to the appropriate registration fee, shall be charged. This
8 additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State
9 Special License Plate Fund.
