HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor achievements in middle
4 school sports in the State of Illinois; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The Liberty Middle School cheerleading team in
6 Edwardsville has had many accomplishments both competitively
7 and academically; they were the 2004 Illinois Elementary School
8 Association (IESA) State Champions in the Large Team Cheer
9 Division, the 2004 IESA Runner-Up in the Large Team Routine
10 Division, the 2005 IESA State Champions in the Large Team Cheer
11 Division, and the 2005 IESA State Champions in the Large Team
12 Routine Division; the team is coached by Brooke Quattlander;
13 and
 
14     WHEREAS, The team participated in Red Ribbon week and
15 visited a local elementary school to promote drug awareness;
16 team members work with local Girl Scouts and volunteer at
17 events in the Edwardsville area; and the team hosted a hugely
18 successful Kids Trivia Night as a fundraiser for area middle
19 school students; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Not only are these 22 athletes participating in
21 events and games to support Liberty Middle School, but they
22 have also had an opportunity to travel around the State to
23 cheer and perform; they cheered on February 11 at Millikin
24 University in Decatur for the men's basketball game; on
25 February 23, the team cheered at Southern Illinois University
26 at Edwardsville for the men's basketball game; on February 25,
27 they cheered in Charleston at Eastern Illinois University for
28 both the men's and the women's teams; and they have qualified
29 for the 2006 Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association State
30 Finals held in March; and
 
31     WHEREAS, Even while maintaining an extremely busy schedule

1 with practices and performances, 16 of the 22 athletes are
2 recognized on the first semester honor roll; therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5 we congratulate the Liberty Middle School cheerleading team on
6 becoming State champions and for their achievements as
7 outstanding young athletes and students; and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to the principal and the cheerleading coach of
10 Liberty Middle School.
