HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois congratulate the Libertyville High School Mock Trial Team for its achievement in its inaugural year of reaching the Illinois State Mock Trial Tournament held the weekend of March 3 and 4, 2006; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois State Bar Association has administered the Illinois High School Mock Trial Competition for many years, affording students at the high school level the opportunity to argue a civil or criminal trial before judges in regional competitions throughout Illinois, preparatory to the State Competition in Springfield; and

WHEREAS, Libertyville High School owes the creation of its Mock Trial Team to the efforts of Daniel Porter, a 2005 senior who persevered in convincing the administration of District 128 that a Mock Trial Team would find a constituency within the student body; and

WHEREAS, The Libertyville High School Mock Trial Team did in fact attract some of the best and brightest of the high school, including freshmen students Amanda Muskat and Jessica Pacholski; sophomore students Thomas Lehn and Katherine Morton; junior Taylor O'Brien; and seniors Daniel Porter, Anthony Marcheschi, Michael Ding, and Sean Clement; and

WHEREAS, Faculty sponsor and attorney coach Dennis J. Duffy was joined by George Strickland, the head of the Criminal Prosecution Division of the Office of the Lake County State's Attorney, whose assistance in preparing the Team for competition was indispensable; and

WHEREAS, The skills developed by participants on the Libertyville High School Mock Trial Team include public speaking, critical thinking and analysis, and self possession and confidence that will serve them into college and beyond; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the talent and ability of these students and their coaches and we congratulate them on their achievement of reaching the ISBA Mock Trial State Tournament; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Libertyville High School as an expression of our esteem and with best wishes for continued academic success in the future.
