HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives learned with sadness of the death of Mike
4 Herbert of Chicago on January 3, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mike Herbert lived virtually his entire life in
6 his Rogers Park neighborhood; he was a star football lineman at
7 Loyola Academy and later attended Northwestern University; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Herbert enjoyed a long career as an
9 outstanding public servant; he dedicated his life to the safety
10 of his fellow citizens, having worked as a Chicago police
11 officer for 35 years, from 1961 to 1996; he later worked as the
12 director of security for his friend, Cook County State's
13 Attorney Richard Devine, from 1996 to 2004; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Mr. Herbert was dedicated and generous to his
15 community and displayed a quiet strength that commanded respect -
16 - even awe -- among the people who knew him; he was always
17 willing to lend a helping hand, whether it be coaching little
18 league or loading neighborhood kids into his station wagon to
19 take them to see his beloved Chicago White Sox; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Mr. Herbert truly loved the Chicago White Sox; he
21 was there for the White Sox appearance in the 1959 World Series
22 and again in 2005 when the White Sox won the World Series; and
 
23     WHEREAS, Mr. Herbert treasured his family and friends and
24 his loss has been felt by many, especially his wife, Barbara;
25 his daughter, Laura; his sons, Dan and Mike; his six
26 grandchildren; and a multitude of extended family and friends;
27 therefore, be it
 
28     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we mourn the passing of Mike Herbert and extend our sincere
2 condolences to his family, his friends, and all who knew and
3 loved him; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
6 sympathy.
