HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, It is appropriate to honor members of the U.S.
3 Armed Forces who willingly and faithfully serve and as result,
4 pay the ultimate sacrifice; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Sergeant First Class Kyle B. Wehrly was a member
6 of Battery C of the 123rd Artillery Unit the Illinois National
7 Guard based out of Galesburg, but was deployed with Battery B,
8 based out of Macomb; he was serving in in Ashraf, Iraq, when an
9 improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during
10 patrol operations; he died on November 3, 2005; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He was born on October 4, 1977, in Nashville,
12 Illinois, to Reverend Peter Wehrly and Nita Cross; he was a
13 1996 midterm graduate of Galesburg High School, where he is
14 remembered for his sense of humor, the way he looked out for
15 his brother, and his willingness to accept responsibility; he
16 joined the Illinois National Guard during his junior year on
17 September 28, 1995; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He worked at Lowe's and had also worked for Hansen
19 Lumber and Carter Lumber; he officiated soccer and played
20 slow-pitch softball; he loved the Cubs; and
 
21     WHEREAS, He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple
22 Heart among many other citations; and
 
23     WHEREAS, The sacrifice Sergeant Wehrly made is one that
24 should be remembered; therefore, be it
 
25     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
26 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
27 we strongly urge the Illinois National Guard to name the
28 National Guard Readiness Facility under construction in
29 Galesburg in his honor; and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be delivered to
2 the Illinois National Guard and to the family of Sergeant First
3 Class Wehrly.
