| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to recognize milestone events in |
| 4 |
| the history of organizations in our State; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the Modenese |
| 6 |
| Society, formed in 1906 in Highland Park, is celebrating its |
| 7 |
| 100th anniversary; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, The founders of the Modenese Society (Societa |
| 9 |
| Modenese di Mutuo Soccorso) were a small group of laborers from |
| 10 |
| the Village of Pievepelago and its surrounding area, located in |
| 11 |
| the Apennine Mountain Range in the province of Modena in the |
| 12 |
| state of Emilia Romagna in Italy; the Society was incorporated |
| 13 |
| under the laws of Illinois in 1907; the principal purposes of |
| 14 |
| the Modenese Society are to aid the members in case of |
| 15 |
| sickness, to help a member's family in case of his death, and |
| 16 |
| to be united against all calamities of misfortune; it is one of |
| 17 |
| the oldest mutual aid societies in the United States; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, In addition to assisting members, the Modenese |
| 19 |
| Society engages in many social activities and has been a |
| 20 |
| sponsor of many civic causes; members strongly support their |
| 21 |
| Italian culture and heritage in their new homeland, America; |
| 22 |
| the group holds a number of activities each year, including an |
| 23 |
| Easter bunny egg hunt for children, an annual members |
| 24 |
| dinner-dance, a golf outing, a summer picnic with entertainment |
| 25 |
| for children, a Columbus Day celebration, and a Christmas party |
| 26 |
| for children; the club meets monthly on the last Thursday at |
| 27 |
| the American Legion Hall in Highwood; and
|
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, Today, the group has 242 members mostly located in |
| 29 |
| Lake County; the club is open to all men of Italian descent; |
| 30 |
| for those not interested in mutual aid benefits, it now offers |
| 31 |
| social memberships; the famous Luciano Pavarotti has been an |
