HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Lance
4 Corporal Andrew Grant Patten of Byron on Thursday, December 1,
5 2005, on the battlefield in Iraq; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born June 1, 1986, in Rockford to Alan G.
7 Patten and Gayle Patten-Naschansky; he was a lifelong Byron
8 resident before joining the U.S. Marine Corps in August of
9 2004; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He graduated from Byron High School in May of
11 2004, where he wrestled and played football; he liked music and
12 he played four different instruments, including guitar, piano,
13 viola, and trumpet; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Patten had a deep and abiding faith
15 in God and was very active in the Maywood Evangelical Free
16 Church youth group; he enjoyed snow camping, rock climbing,
17 four wheeling, and anything adventurous; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He was last stationed at 29 Palms, California and
19 was deployed to Iraq on July 4, 2005; he was nicknamed "Rev" by
20 his fellow soldiers because of his closeness to God and his
21 willingness to share his beliefs with others; and
 
22     WHEREAS, The passing of Lance Corporal Patten has been
23 deeply felt by many, especially his parents, Alan (fiance,
24 Diane Kerr) Patten and Gayle (Victor) Naschansky; his sister,
25 Allison Patten; his grandparents, Richard and Dorothea Seaman;
26 and his many special friends, especially Eddie and Josh
27 Engelert and Matt Nyberg, his solid rock friends; he was
28 preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ray and Helen
29 Drake, and his aunt, Donna Nelson; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we mourn the passing of Lance Corporal Andrew Grant Patten, a
4 true American hero, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his
5 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
6 further
 
7     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lance Corporal Patten
8 and his willingness to serve our country, which led to him
9 making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest
12 condolences.
