HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Al
4 Oxford of Johnston City; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Al was born January 6, 1943 in Hardin County, the
6 son of Gilbert and Cora (Ralph) Oxford; he married Iolanda
7 (Serena) on April 27, 1977 in Harrisburg; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Al was a retired coal miner, last working at Rend
9 Lake Consolidated Coal in 2003, and was a union representative
10 for the UMWA; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Al was a veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis - Bay
12 of Pigs from 1960 to 1963, serving in the United States Navy;
13 and
 
14     WHEREAS, Al was an active member of the community; he was a
15 member of the Lake Creek Masonic Lodge and a board member of
16 the FRC; he was a Democratic precinct committeeman, had served
17 on the Johnston City School Board, and had been a Johnston City
18 alderman; Al was a member of Hurricane Baptist Church in
19 Herrin, where he served as a trustee and a Yokefellow; he also
20 was a member of the Buccaneer's Club of Johnston City; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Al was an inspiration to his family and countless
22 friends, and his passing has been deeply felt by many,
23 especially his wife, Iolanda; his son, Brian, and wife Shelley;
24 his daughter, Tonya Greenrod; his grandchildren, Ryan Oxford,
25 Courtney Oxford, Kayleigh Oxford, Aaron Pogue, and Kaci Pogue;
26 his sisters, Wanda Cash, Alma Gross (husband, Harold), and
27 Betty Cash (husband, Ed); his brothers, Russel (wife, Jackie),
28 Harry (wife, Jane), and Dave; and several nieces and nephews;
29 he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers,
30 Winford and Kenny; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we mourn the passing of Al Oxford, and we extend our deepest
4 sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5 him; and be it further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to Al Oxford's family as an expression of our sincere
8 condolences.
