HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives learned with sadness of the death of Joseph
4 Manuel Garcia on August 13, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia was born on March 11, 1952, in Mexico
6 City, to Theresa Rivera Melo and Manual Martin Garcia, the
7 second oldest of eight children; he immigrated to America with
8 his parents and sister on July 4, 1956, and grew up in
9 Chicago's Austin neighborhood on Chicago's west side; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He married Linda Toohey on May 19, 1973, and they
11 were married for 32 happy years; he had six children, Jami,
12 Linda, Joann, Joseph, Timothy, and Jason, and four
13 grandchildren, Linda, Ryan, Kaley, and David; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He loved the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls
15 and refereed basketball for 15 years; he was also a big fan of
16 the Beatles and Frank Sinatra; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia was a precinct captain for the 13th
18 ward and was very active in the political system; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He became a lifelong patriot after seeing
20 fireworks upon his entrance into the United States; he took
21 responsibility as an American citizen very seriously and loved
22 the principles that our nation stands for: freedom, equality,
23 and opportunity for a better life; he gave as much back to our
24 nation as was given to him; and
 
25     WHEREAS, He was a kind, honest, and hardworking man who
26 loved his family; he will be missed by the many people whose
27 lives he touched; therefore, be it
 
28     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2 we mourn the passing of Joseph Garcia and extend our sincerest
3 condolences to his family and friends; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
6 sympathy.
