HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives learned with sadness of the death of Joseph Manuel Garcia on August 13, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia was born on March 11, 1952, in Mexico City, to Theresa Rivera Melo and Manual Martin Garcia, the second oldest of eight children; he immigrated to America with his parents and sister on July 4, 1956, and grew up in Chicago's Austin neighborhood on Chicago's west side; and

WHEREAS, He married Linda Toohey on May 19, 1973, and they were married for 32 happy years; he had six children, Jami, Linda, Joann, Joseph, Timothy, and Jason, and four grandchildren, Linda, Ryan, Kaley, and David; and

WHEREAS, He loved the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls and refereed basketball for 15 years; he was also a big fan of the Beatles and Frank Sinatra; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia was a precinct captain for the 13th ward and was very active in the political system; and

WHEREAS, He became a lifelong patriot after seeing fireworks upon his entrance into the United States; he took responsibility as an American citizen very seriously and loved the principles that our nation stands for: freedom, equality, and opportunity for a better life; he gave as much back to our nation as was given to him; and

WHEREAS, He was a kind, honest, and hardworking man who loved his family; he will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph Garcia and extend our sincerest condolences to his family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
