HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In the first-ever all-Southland baseball state championship, the Porters of Lockport High School defeated the Mount Carmel Caravan 8-4 on June 11, 2005, in Geneva, giving the Porters their first state baseball championship; and

WHEREAS, The Porters decisively defeated Barrington 15-1, winning the opportunity to battle Mount Carmel for the championship; and

WHEREAS, The Porters were led offensively by left fielder Eric Sternberg who was 6 for 8 for the day with a record-tying 10 runs batted in; and

WHEREAS, The Porters were perhaps the best offensive team in the Southland this year, never scoring fewer than two runs in a game all year; and

WHEREAS, Among the leading offensive players were Nick Mitidiero, Jake Christensen, and Matt Otteman, the 2005 Daily Southtown player of the year; and

WHEREAS, The Porters were led by Coach Jim Hall in his fifteenth season at the helm, and by assistant coaches Butch Markelz, Lee Turnbough, Steve Stanicek, Andy Satunas, Dave Jeglinski, Ken Dobson, Matt Bartley, Kendall Hutchinson, Dan Blaskovitz, and Frank Popek; and

WHEREAS, The Porters are managed by Adam Marzec; the team includes the talents and contributions of players Billy Barrett, Bryan Blaskovitz, Dan Brady, Jake Christensen, Tony Correa, Jon Darin, Mike Fagan, Kevin Goddard, Eric Izzo, Chris King, Bobby Kolon, Ed Krupa, Frank Kucera, Steven Kunce, Zack Lammers, Mike McCarthy, Nick Mitidiero, Matt Otteman, John Pearson, Matt Shilney, Jason Soukup, Eric Sternberg, and Trevor Willis; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the 2005 Class AA Boys State Baseball Champion Lockport Porters on their momentous accomplishments this season; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be distributed to the coaches and members of the Lockport boys baseball team with our highest regard.
