HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, June 3, 2005, will be Sister Connie Probst's last
3 day at the Illinois Hunger Coalition of Chicago; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Sister Connie will be leaving Illinois to become
5 part of the leadership team of her order of Roman Catholic
6 religious sisters in St. Louis Missouri; and
 
7     WHEREAS, A farewell party will be held on June 3, 2005, to
8 wish her the best in her new and exciting move into leadership
9 of her community of sisters; and
 
10     WHEREAS, The Illinois Hunger Coalition (IHC) is a statewide
11 membership organization that works to alleviate hunger through
12 education, networking, advocacy, and empowerment activities;
13 projects are designed and resources are pursued to achieve
14 progress towards the implementation of the mission; and
 
15     WHEREAS, For six years, Sister Connie has served as the
16 Community Organizer for IHC during which time she worked
17 closely with Representative Susana Mendoza and other members of
18 the General Assembly for passage of the Childhood Hunger Relief
19 Act resulting in a mandate for close to 400 schools to offer
20 school breakfast to low-income children in Illinois; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Her tireless advocacy and efforts to include
22 hungry people, immigrants, and residents of low-income
23 communities to get involved in their communities and to work
24 for public policy that promotes social justice for all people
25 has greatly enhanced the well-being of the people of Illinois;
26 and
 
27     WHEREAS, Under Sister Connie's leadership, the IHC founded
28 "Latino's Organized for Justice (LOJ)" in Kankakee, West
29 Chicago, Joliet, Chicago Back of the Yards, and N.W. suburban

1 Cook; LOJ has worked for justice for immigrants in the
2 workplace and has provided immigrant leadership for the
3 struggle for driver's licenses for all immigrants; and
 
4     WHEREAS, As part of the Grassroots Collaborative, LOJ
5 organized one-third of the 10,000 participants who rallied for
6 amnesty for immigrants in Chicago in September of 2000;
7 therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10 we recognize the selfless efforts of Sister Connie Probst and
11 extend our heartfelt thanks for her tireless advocacy on behalf
12 of those in need; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to Sister Connie Probst as an expression of our
15 utmost admiration and esteem.
