| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois wish to congratulate Dr. David H. Baker for |
| 4 |
| being selected as a new member of the National Academy of |
| 5 |
| Sciences; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Baker received a Bachelor of Arts from the |
| 7 |
| University of Illinois in 1961, a Master of Science from the |
| 8 |
| University of Illinois in 1963, and a Ph.D. from the University |
| 9 |
| of Illinois in 1965; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Baker is a Professor at the University of |
| 11 |
| Illinois, serving as Emeritus Professor of Animal Sciences; a |
| 12 |
| member of the faculty of the Department of Animal Sciences; and |
| 13 |
| Professor Emeritus, Internal Medicine; his research at the |
| 14 |
| University of Illinois focuses on comparative nutrition and |
| 15 |
| nutrient utilization with nutrient-nutrient interactions of |
| 16 |
| special interest; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The National Academy of Sciences is a private |
| 18 |
| organization of scientists and engineers dedicated to the |
| 19 |
| furtherance of science and its use for the general welfare; the |
| 20 |
| Academy was established in 1863 by a congressional act of |
| 21 |
| incorporation signed by Abraham Lincoln that calls on the |
| 22 |
| Academy to act as an official adviser to the federal |
| 23 |
| government, upon request, in any matter of science or |
| 24 |
| technology; and
|
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, On May 3, 2005, the National Academy of Sciences |
| 26 |
| elected Dr. Baker as one of 72 new members to the Academy in |
| 27 |
| recognition of his distinguished and continuing achievements |
| 28 |
| in original research; therefore, be it
