HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Patricia Ann Way, a Special Education teacher at Nelson Mandela Elementary School, on the occasion of her retirement after 38 years in education; and

WHEREAS, In 1967, Mrs. Way was employed by East St. Louis School District 189 as an English, Speech, and Drama teacher at Lincoln High School; she later received her Masters in Special Education and has continued to work in that field through her retirement; and

WHEREAS, To enhance her teaching experience, she traveled to China, Japan, and South America and has presented workshops to other teachers about her travels; she also is trained and serves as a paramedic; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Way is active in the school and in the community; at the school, she served on several committees, including Art, Spelling Bee, Social Studies, Elementary Arts Curriculum K-12, East St. Louis History, Graduation, Christmas, Retirement, and Decorations for all seasons; she is also an Art Museum Friend, Botanical Gardens Friends, Missouri History Museum Friend, and a Friend of the Symphony; and

WHEREAS, She has given generously of her time and resources to Nelson Mandela School and the community; she has been recognized for her service by School District 189's Fine Arts Department, Special Education Department, and Social Studies Department, as well as the International Education Consortium and the Federal Reserve - Education Division; she is the proud mother of two successful sons and grandmother of six; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Patricia Ann Way on the occasion of her retirement, and we thank her for her many years of dedication to the education of students in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Way as an expression of our respect and esteem and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
