HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Mark Boerckel of United Township High School in East Moline has been named one of 10 winners of the Chicago Tribune's 2005 All-State Academic Team scholarship competition; and

WHEREAS, Each of the 10 All-State Academic Team winners receives a $2,000 scholarship from the Chicago Tribune Foundation, which supports civic, educational, cultural, and journalistic endeavors; the 10 winners and 61 regional finalists also receive Olympic-style medallions; and

WHEREAS, The 250 high school seniors entered in the competition all demonstrated strong academic achievement and involvement in their communities, but the 10-member All-State Academic Team winners are especially impressive; each maintains an A average despite carrying numerous advanced placement and honors courses; and

WHEREAS, Mark Boerckel is a straight A student who is enrolled in every Advanced Placement course available at his school; he scored a 35 out of 36 on the ACT exam; and

WHEREAS, His hard work and dedication have made him a National Merit Finalist; and

WHEREAS, He is also a stand-out athlete at his school; he is the captain of his swim team and holds the record in the Quad Cities area for the 200-meter free style; and

WHEREAS, He plans to attend Clemson University on a full scholarship, where he hopes to major in business or economics; and

WHEREAS, He is very involved in his community serving as a youth leader in his church; and

WHEREAS, His greatest love is magic; last year, he launched a business as a professional magician and has performed a dozen shows across East Moline; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Mark Boerckel on his outstanding achievement and commitment to excellence and extend our sincere best wishes for success and happiness in the years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mark Boerckel as an expression of our admiration and esteem.
