HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, In 1964, eight visionary founders: Lady Franchell
3 Boswell, Lady Ina Bolton Brown, Lady Augusta Cash Latham, Lady
4 Ozell Dean, Lady Willie Lee Glass, Lady LaVerne Madlock, Lady
5 Ruth Payne Smith, and Lady Georgia Presswood blazed the trails
6 to provide direction for all chapters of Top Ladies of
7 Distinction, Incorporated, to follow, as they render service to
8 mankind; and
 
9     WHEREAS, In 1984, Mrs. Peggy Lewis LeCompte, educator,
10 civic and social leader, club woman, and board member of
11 numerous service agencies in the metropolitan St. Louis area
12 contacted other like-minded women to unite their energies to
13 better serve the community; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Forty enthusiastic, committed, and dynamic women
15 were convened to discuss Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., which
16 would provide a common agenda to share their collective
17 talents; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., has as its
19 Programmatic Thrusts, service to Top Teens of America, Senior
20 Citizens, Status of Women, Community Beautification, and
21 Community Partnerships; these 40 women felt compelled to join
22 with chapters throughout the United States to provide services
23 in their respective communities; and
 
24     WHEREAS, On January 20, 1985, chartered as the East St.
25 Louis Chapter, 40 women from across the metro east St. Louis
26 area united and pledged to carry out the principles and goals
27 of this illustrious organization known as Top Ladies of
28 Distinction, Incorporated; and
 
29     WHEREAS, The East St. Louis Chapter, 20 years later,
30 continues to fulfill its pledge through services in the

1 metropolitan area; the East St. Louis Chapter and its national
2 organization of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., are
3 strengthened by inducting new members to help carry out the
4 vision of the founders; and
 
5     WHEREAS, On January 30, 2005, the East St. Louis Chapter is
6 celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the charter, inducting new
7 members, and will have Founder Lady Ozell Dean present to
8 commemorate this occasion; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11 we recognize the diligence, commitment, and dedicated services
12 performed by the East St. Louis Chapter of Top Ladies of
13 Distinction, Incorporated, and we salute the organization on
14 its Chartering Anniversary on January 30, 2005; and be it
15 further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the East St. Louis Chapter of Top Ladies of
18 Distinction, Incorporated as an expression of our deepest
19 respect and esteem.
