HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Dr. Elizabeth A. Ennis will retire as the Superintendent of Township High School District 214 at the completion of the school year; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ennis was the first female to be appointed Principal and then Superintendent in District 214; she has served as Superintendent from 1998 to 2005; and

WHEREAS, District 214 serves 12,500 students and employs 1,700 individuals in a variety of roles, including teachers, administrators, clerical and instructional support personnel, food service, and custodial maintenance personnel; the annual budget is $205 million; and

WHEREAS, She received a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Theatre, a Master of Science in Secondary Education, and an Education Specialist Degree in Education Administration from Indiana University; she received a Doctor of Education in School Administration and Policy Studies from the University of Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS, She has been a successful high school speech and drama teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal in Indiana and Illinois, Director of High Schools and Adult Education, Graduate Assistant, Deputy Superintendent, and Superintendent; and

WHEREAS, During her tenure, the district has experienced significant changes in curriculum, increased recruiting and hiring of minority candidates, maintained a balanced budget, introduced the Vanguard School and Newcomer Center, seen a rise in test scores which remain above State and national levels, and all facilities have been improved; and

WHEREAS, The hallmark of Dr. Ennis' superintendency is her understanding of the importance of building relationships and being visible within the school community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Dr. Ennis for her many years of service and outstanding leadership in public education and congratulate her on her retirement plans of teaching, traveling, volunteering, and attending more plays; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Elizabeth Ennis as an expression of our admiration and esteem.
