HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Grayslake Times celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2005; and

WHEREAS, In 1905, the first issue of Grayslake Times, a weekly community newspaper, was published; and

WHEREAS, More than 40 years ago, Lake County residents, Marshall R. Schroeder and his son, Bill, established what would become Lakeland Media; on July 3, 1956, the Schroeder family began what then was called Lakeland Publishers with only three newspapers, Grayslake Times, Round Lake News, and Fox Lake Press; and

WHEREAS, Lakeland Media, continuing the tradition started over 100 years ago, provides the Lake County area with a resource for the local and regional news; and

WHEREAS, The Lakeland Newspapers are dedicated to providing weekly community newspapers to twelve communities: Antioch News (1886), Fox Lake Press (1934), Grayslake Times, Gurnee Press (1973), Lake Villa Record (1959), Libertyville News (1989), Lindenhurst News (1988), Mundelein News (1942), Round Lake News (1938), Wadsworth News (1960), Wauconda Leader (1888), and the newest family member, Waukegan Times (2004); and

WHEREAS, A special recognition goes to the Schroeder family for their consistent support for the area; Bill Schroeder leads his family and his staff to new heights focusing on supporting the area and getting the news to thousands of households every week; and

WHEREAS, Lakeland Media is also one of the first Internet providers in Lake and McHenry counties and publishes the CHINFO Worldwide-winning Great Lake Bulletin publication for the Navy and a unique direct mail publication, Market Journal; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Lakeland Media and the Grayslake Times on its 100th anniversary and extend our best wishes for a joyous centennial celebration and many more years of serving its community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Lakeland Media and the Grayslake Times as an expression of our esteem.
