HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Stephen L. Welsh, formerly of Liberty, is retiring
3 after 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy on April 29, 2005;
4 and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on July 4, 1964, in Quincy to Leon and
6 Mary Lou (Campbell) Welsh, raised on a farm near Liberty, and
7 attended Liberty High School; he married Dionne Kristine Welsh
8 on March 18, 2000, in Virginia Beach, Virginia; they were
9 blessed with their first child, Cora Elizabeth, on April 24,
10 2003; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Mr. Welsh enlisted as a seaman on April 24, 1985;
12 throughout the years, he has served at Great Lakes, Illinois;
13 San Diego, California; Sigonella Sicily; Norfolk, Virginia;
14 and most recently at Hampton Roads; he served on the USS
15 Copeland, the USS Kidd, and the USS Vella Gulf; he is retiring
16 as an Information Systems Technician first class, specializing
17 in surface warfare; one of his most proud moments in the
18 military was when he made first class the week before he was
19 married; he was also proud when he was awarded his ESWS pin;
20 and
 
21     WHEREAS, His battle group was set to deploy for six months
22 on September 19, 2001, but they immediately left on September
23 11, 2001, to provide air defense to the USS George Washington
24 on the coast of New York; the ship returned a few days later
25 and had a week to prepare for deployment; and
 
26     WHEREAS, His family and friends are extremely proud of him
27 and his service as part of Operation Enduring Freedom;
28 therefore, be it
 
29     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we congratulate Stephen L. Welsh on the occasion of his
2 retirement from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service, and we
3 thank him for his willingness to proudly serve our country; and
4 be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to Mr. Welsh as an expression of our sincerest
7 respect and esteem and our best wishes for the future.
